What to do when the Zoo need urgent help with elephant tusks?

What to do when the Zoo calls you about a bleeding fractured tusk in a 3 year old elephant and need urgent help?
This incident happened to us not once but three times in the winter 2020-2021. With no previous experience of treating tusks, we had to improvise using the knowledge and materials used for the same situation in dogs or cats. Challenges like lack of complete hemostasis, the large diameter of the pulp and concerns about what material will provide a strong longterm restoration in a continuosly growing tusk - and not to forget not having these materials in stock in the amount needed when called unexpectedly, was some of our huge challenges,
Emergency vital pulp therapy of 3 different fractured tusks in two 3 year old bull elephants with 2 redoings gave us know how of to handle these cases in primitive settings and still get succesful result : 3 still growing tusks.
The challenges and treatment choices will be explained in this case report.
