Program and aims of course
• To provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of fracture fixation techniques in the equine head.
• To develop the practical skills required for the effective application of fixation devices in cases of incisor fractures, mandibular fractures, and facial bone injuries.
• To enhance the ability of participants to evaluate and select the most appropriate fixation method for various types of fractures in the equine head.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
1. Understand the principles and biomechanical considerations of fracture fixation in the equine head.
2. Identify and evaluate different fracture patterns affecting the incisor, mandibular, and facial bones.
3. Demonstrate the correct technique for applying cerclage wires to stabilize incisor and mandibular fractures.
4. Perform the placement of external fixators for mandibular fractures on cadaver specimens.
5. Apply small reconstructive plates to manage fractures of facial bones in horses.
6. Integrate theoretical knowledge with practical skills to develop a treatment plan tailored to individual cases of head trauma in horses.
7. Recognize potential complications associated with fracture fixation in the head and understand strategies for their prevention and management.
